TI - Lehrerperspektiven auf Englischunterricht und Mehrsprachigkeit PY - 2014 UR - https://tujournals.ulb.tu-darmstadt.de/index.php/zif/article/view/24 AB - Based on three expert interviews with teachers of English, this paper analyses in what way English Language Teaching (ELT) can contribute to the development of individual plurilingualism („M+2“). It introduces proposals for the role of English as a door opener to future foreign language learning currently being discussed by educationalists and applied linguists. These theoretical ideas are then contrasted with the perceptions of the actors involved in order to determine how the teachers, i.e. the practitioners, feel about using ELT as a vehicle for achieving the educational goal of plurilingualism. The study shows that theory and practice must engage in a more intensive dialogue to ensure that plurilingualism can be implemented as a realistic objective in the English language classroom.
